Frequently Asked Questions

Can this reptile heat mat be used on plastic terrariums?

Only the Mini (RH-7) model may be used on certain “Keeper”-type plastic enclosures and must be mounted on the side or back wall. The Small (RH-4) model is designed for glass terrariums only.

Can I use this under tank heater in an aquarium or turtle tank?

No. The ReptiTherm® is not designed for use with water and should never be used in aquariums, turtle tanks, paludariums, or any enclosure with water on the bottom.

Do I need a thermostat?

Yes. A reptile thermostat is strongly recommended, especially if ambient room temperatures exceed 80°F (26.6°C). A thermostat helps regulate heat output and prevent overheating.

Can this be the only heat source?

For some species, this reptile heating pad may serve as a primary 24-hour heat source. However, many reptiles also require overhead basking lights or UVB lighting depending on species requirements.

Where should the heater be placed?

The heater must be installed on the outside of the terrarium only. It can be mounted underneath (with elevation) or on the side wall depending on your enclosure type. Always position it on one side (opposite the water dish) to create a proper heat gradient.

How do I prevent overheating?

Elevate the tank when bottom mounting, avoid direct sunlight, monitor temperatures regularly, and use a reptile thermostat when necessary.
