Rx Norocillin (Penicillin G Procaine) Injectable Solution

Rx Norocillin is a prescription injectable antibacterial solution containing Penicillin G Procaine, designed for the treatment of a variety of infections in livestock. This FDA-approved formulation offers broad-spectrum activity, primarily against Gram-positive organisms, and is indicated for use in cattle, sheep, swine, and horses. Norocillin is commonly used to treat bacterial pneumonia (shipping fever), erysipelas, and strangles.

Indications:

  • Cattle & Sheep: Bacterial pneumonia (shipping fever) caused by Pasteurella multocida
  • Swine: Erysipelas caused by Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae
  • Horses: Strangles caused by Streptococcus equi

Dosage & Administration:

  • Administer intramuscularly at a dosage of 1 mL per 100 lbs of body weight (3,000 units/lb)
  • Warm vial to room temperature and shake well before use
  • Do not exceed 10 mL per injection site; rotate sites with each treatment
  • Continue daily treatment until recovery is evident and for at least one day after symptoms subside (typically 2–3 days)
  • Treatment duration should not exceed 4 consecutive days

Active Ingredient:

Penicillin G as Procaine – 300,000 units per mL

Residue Warnings:

Do not exceed 3,000 units per pound of body weight, 4 days of treatment, or 10 mL per injection site. Doing so may extend withdrawal periods. Observe the following meat and milk withdrawal times:

  • Cattle: 14 days before slaughter; 48 hours milk withdrawal
  • Sheep: 9 days before slaughter
  • Swine: 7 days before slaughter
  • Calves: Do not use in pre-ruminating calves intended for veal

Warnings:

  • Do not use in horses intended for human consumption
  • Not for use in humans; keep out of reach of children
  • May cause allergic or anaphylactic reactions—observe animals for at least 30 minutes post-injection

Cautions:

Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.
